So far, we have created tags on the fly from within the post editor screen.

But there is much more to tags in WordPress, and this is where the “Tags” screen comes in.

The “Tags” screen will help us manage the tags of our blog.

The “Tags” screen is useful:

  1. If you want to plan out tags for your blog upfront
  2. If you want to reference the tags that have been created already
  3. If you want to edit information about the tag
  4. If you want to delete a tag
  5. If you want to add a description to a particular tag
  6. If you want to take control of how the tag name looks inside the URL

Sounds familiar?

Yes, managing the tags has the same roots as managing the categories.

So, if you have mastered managing categories, you already know how to manage tags.

But we need to use the “Tags” screen to manage the tags instead of the “Categories” screen.

I know that’s obvious, but I just wanted to be on the same page.

And the link for accessing the “Tags” screen is right underneath the “Categories” screen link.

Come on, go ahead and click on the “Tags” link.

Did you notice the similarity between the “Tags” and the “Categories” screens?

They totally function in the same way.

  1. Every time we create a tag, WordPress creates an archive page for it
  2. If we rename the slug of a tag, we should add a 301 redirection to the new tag URL
  3. There is no trash functionality for tags. If we delete a tag, it will get deleted permanently, and we can’t restore it.

The settings are the same too.

So, there is no need for us to go through how to use the “Tags” screen.

If you have any doubts regarding the “Tags” functionality, refer to the management lessons of categories, and you’ll be good to go!

That’s all.
